Experience Russian cuisine in London

The "ZIMA Russian Restaurant" in London, England, is a unique culinary highlight that combines the rich tradition of Russian cuisine with a modern, creative approach. Located in the vibrant Soho district, it offers a welcome change in the diverse gastronomic landscape of the British capital. The restaurant spans a three-story townhouse and was founded by the renowned Russian chef Alexei Zimin, who elevates Russian culinary arts in London to a new level with his expertise and sense of innovation. ZIMA is not just a place to eat, but an experience that unites culture, art, and hospitality.

Cultural dining in Soho London

The interior design of ZIMA is a successful blend of rustic charm and avant-garde style. With blue tiles, raw wood, and warm lighting, the restaurant creates an atmosphere reminiscent of a modern interpretation of a Russian inn. Each floor has its unique character: while the ground floor offers a lively, sociable vibe, the upper areas invite guests to linger with their calm elegance and a small terrace. Particularly noteworthy is the cultural touch reflected in the decor—ranging from traditional Russian folk art to contemporary elements, making the venue a little piece of Russia in London.

Modern Russian restaurants in London

Culinary-wise, ZIMA stands for a fusion of classic Russian dishes and contemporary interpretations. A definite highlight is the Pelmeni, handmade dumplings filled with juicy meat or delicate fish, served with an aromatic broth— a dish that conveys both warmth and authenticity. The Pirozhki, small baked buns offered with savory fillings like meat or cabbage, are also popular and appreciated for their fluffy texture. The Zakuski, traditional Russian appetizers, present a colorful variety of flavors, including pickled vegetables and delicate fish bites that pair perfectly with the homemade vodka infusions. For those with a sweet tooth, the honey cake stands out—a layered dessert with sweet cream that represents Russian baking artistry at its finest. The caviar selection is often highlighted as particularly accessible, bringing a touch of luxury to everyday life.

Culinary highlights in London Soho

The drink menu is another hallmark of ZIMA. The house-infused Nastoykas—vodkas infused with ingredients like sea buckthorn, strawberry, or horseradish—are a must-try for any visitor, offering a flavorful journey through Russian culture. These infusions are served in small shots or as part of cocktails, adding a special touch to the meal. In addition to alcoholic beverages, there is also a selection of wines, including Georgian varieties, as well as non-alcoholic options that round out the offering.

Try traditional Russian dishes

Service at ZIMA is often described as warm and attentive. The staff strives to provide guests not only with a great meal but also with a piece of Russian hospitality. However, particularly on busy evenings, the atmosphere can get a bit livelier, which may slightly affect the relaxed vibe. The restaurant also offers the option to order takeaway, making it attractive for those who wish to enjoy the delicacies at home.

Every time I am in London I go to this restaurant for the genuine Russian cousine. This time it was a lunch with my husband. Lunch offer is of a good size though does not look so on the images, at a comparable cost to other venues around and super tasty. Both versions have salads, soups and pelmeny/Anna made our time even better sharing her experience and memories. Thank you and hope to come back soon. 😊

Delicious food and great service from Anna. Would definitely recommend the lamb pelmeni and the honey cake was to die for.

Food was okay but nothing to write home about and definitely not worth the price. Kvas and mors tasted like cheap bottled, even though they claim both are homemade. Pelmeni only one step better than ones from grocery store. If you want to get a good first impression of Russian cuisine, look elsewhere.

Avoid this place! Food is disgusting, service is the worst I have tried in London (waitress didn’t even know what ingredients were inside dishes) and totally overpriced for what you get. Me and my friends have been sick all night. Food poisoning. STAY AWAY!

Spassiba
